Scrappin’ with Stampin’ up and The weekly Deals

Happy Hump day!

Boy did I have a rough day at work! I am so glad it is over. Now I am ready to see if I can find my creative side this evening.  I did have some time to work on some scrapbook pages the other day and I decided to follow the Challenge over at Scrap Challenge Yourself.  The current theme is to use bright colors and ” I Am” in the title or journaling. When I saw the theme I knew exactly which photo I would be scrapping….. a crazy, silly photo of Me! I am in the midst of scrapping my high school years photos so they won’t get ruined sitting in boxes or in those old, terrible plastic sheet covered albums that stick to the photos. It is absolutely hilarious what I have found in going through photos from 25 years ago. So without further delay, here is my page:

Silly times in 1988

There is no picture I have that better describes who I was back then. I was a silly, silly girl. Actually, I still am.  🙂  I have been trying to make my scrapbook pages look a bit more “80’s” like when doing these photos. But, with this one, I just went with the color theme and decided to incorporate stars and arrows.  The majority of the items on this page are from Stampin’  Up. The only non Stampin’ Up products are the chipboard letters, foam word and the background page. Some of the pieces are from the project life line. The silver stars and sequins are from a past paper pumpkin kit I received.  You really can pull from your crafting stash that isn’t always meant for scrapbooking and turn it into a fantastic page!

Do you have leftover card making supplies you don’t know what to do with?  Do you have pictures that need to get organized? If so, see what kind of beautiful page you can create. You just might be surprised at how good it can look!

I must not forget to post about the weekly deals so here they are:

Fabulous Four and The Fusion Challenge

Happy Monday!

I got to spend a fair amount of time being crafty this weekend so I thought I would try one of the challenges. I am still trying to come up with more ideas for Easter cards so while that was brewing I decided to work on some birthday cards.  I have a few special gentleman with birthdays in March. When I checked over at the Fusion Card Challenge blog I saw their inspiration photo and it did in fact inpsire me to make something that could be a good uni-sex card!

I decided to follow both their inspiration photo and their sketch. Here is their challenge info so you can see what I mean:

Fusion Challenge Feb 2015

I love that picture. I could totally enjoy reading a book in that very spot!  I also enjoyed trying to find patterned papers that would work well crossing over each other. That is pretty easy to do when you get Stampin’ Up DSP because all the papers in one pack coordinate!  The patterned paper used here is from the Sweet Taffy DSP in the main catalog.  I tried to mimic the hexagon pattern by using my Honeycomb embossing folder on the brown circle layer.  The stamp is from the Fabulous Four stamp set and could easily be used for occasions beyond birthdays. I finished off the card with some cute candy dots placed randomly. Well, semi-randomly, one is covering an “oops” with an ink spot.  🙂

I am entering this card over at the Fusion Card Challenge Blog just in the nick of time!

Have a great week!!

For Peep’s Sake, I need to be making Easter Cards!

Happy Sunday All!

I just looked at the calendar today and realized I only have 6 weeks to make my Easter cards!  I know you are laughing right now because 6 weeks seems like a lot of time, right?  Well I have always had some trouble coming up with Easter cards I like. I don’t know why that is, but all the other holidays come easier to me. Additionally, with my full time ( or more) job and a trip planned in March I have to plan out how I will get all my cards done for birthdays and holidays way ahead of time. So without hesitation I got started this weekend and here is my first creation:

Interestingly, this card came together very quickly for me.  Since I had just used the Sheltering Tree set on the last card I started thinking about ways I can make another outdoor scene using the grass. Then I thought, hey how cute would chicks and eggs be?!  I ended up using just one chick since this card is a smaller size. It is just about a 4×4, but not quite. Honestly, I just used the leftover cut paper from a another card so it is an odd shape, but it would still fit in a regular envelope and could be shipped without extra charges.  I had to use some masking technique on this card so I could get different colored eggs/ This is because the stamp in this set has a row of various eggs. I just masked the ones I did not want and then inked up the remaining egg. This would work a bit easier just using markers to color in the eggs you might want, but I did not have the correct ink colors in markers so masking worked out great!  To make the clouds I used the word bubble die set. The sun is from a hostess set called Hello Love.

I am entering this card over at Addicted to CAS as their current theme is Masking – Challenge #57.

Have a happy Sunday and try to be crafty today if you can!

A little bit of Spring and the Weekly Deals

Hi There Crafty Folks,

Brrrrr! Here in the Chicago suburbs we are under a wind chill advisory and going outside is not fun. We still have plenty of snow on the ground and frigid temps. Sigh. So of course this makes me long for spring. The best way I know how to curtail the winter blues is to create a spring looking card so that is just what I did!

I have seen so many beautiful creations on pinterest with this stamp set. It has possibilities to be used for all four seasons. I chose to use Wild Wasabi, Pear Pizzazz and Melon Mambo for my leaves. I also used Early Esspresso for the Tree and the Bike but I think next time I would try Chocolate Chip.  It is really a great card to help some look forward to Spring! If you don’t have this set yet, you should get it!

Once again I am a day late, but here are the weekly deals!

Birthday Bokeh Balloons Card

Happy Sunday!

I tried out a new technique yesterday and decided I had to share it.  Have you heard of Bokeh? It is mostly used in photography and it is the visual quality of the out-of-focus areas of a photographic image. I have seen other use this technique in some card making so I wanted to try it myself. Obviously using Bokeh in stamping is not exactly the same but more of an inspiration. I actually learned this technique by watching video’s on Stamping School.  If you aren’t a member, consider becoming one because I learn something new from them every week!

The blues and greens make it a very versatile birthday card.  The Dotty Angles stamp set has the perfect stamp for making a Bokeh appearance with the dots.  You simply stamp off 3 to 4 times randomly on the paper without re-inking and it come out looking like this! Couldn’t be much easier, right?  I am truly loving the new Celebrate Today stamp set for making birthday cards. There is just so much you can do with it, especially since it comes with matching framelits!  I decided to emboss the paper with two different dot themed embossing folders to match the dots them on the paper.  I used Soft Sky, Pool Party and Wild Wasabi so the new Painted Blooms Cotton Twine matched perfectly for making the balloon strings!

I hope  you get to try making a Bokeh look on your cards too!

I am entering this card over at Die Cut Diva’s since their current challenge is Words, Quotes and Sentiments. I am also entering this card at Seize The Birthday challenge. I am not following their current theme, but since they accept birthday card themes all the time, what the heck!

Go get crafty today!
