Stampin’ Up! Nine Lives stamp set is the cat’s meow!

Hi Creative Friends!

If you have gotten to know me while following my blog, or possibly read my About Me page, you likely figured out I am a cat lover. Of course, this means that any cat stamp set put out by Stampin’ Up! needs to be added to my collection! The Stampin’ Up! Nine Lives stamp set is a perfect set for cat lovers like me! For this card I felt like the pretty kitty needed a cat bed. The stamp set doesn’t have one, so I made one myself!

How cute is this? This card/cat was inspired my my sweet cat Jezabel. She is my only girl in the house so it seemed fitting to make this card have some pink on it!

To make this I started with a 4 1/4 x 11 piece of Basic Gray scored at 5 1/2. The pink layer of card stock is Petal Pink and is cut at 3 3/4 x 5. I ran that through my big shot with the Subtle Embossing Folder hoping it would look like a wall/wallpaper. The Whisper White layer behind the Petal Pink card stock is just 1/8 inch larger all around.

To make the cat bed/house I used the Cuckoo for You stamp set and matching Cuckoo Clock dies. I first stamped the Cuckoo clock in Memento Black ink on Whisper White. I then used my Dark Smoky Slate Blends marker to color in the outside edges of the clock. From there I cut off the bottom part of the clock in a straight line. Next I cut the inside part of the clock out so now I only had the colored outside part left. I set these aside to work on the rest of the house.

I used the Cuckoo Clock die (no stamped image) and cut it out in both Smoky Slate and Whisper white. I then used one of my Layering Circles Dies to cut out a hole to be the entry to the house. You can decide what size circle works best for you. To make the trim I simply cut a circle out of Basic Gray that is one size larger than the circle I used for the opening to the house. After that I ran it through again with the circle I used for the opening to the house to make a trim. I found the circles were to close together to run through at the same time.

Now it was time to give my cat house a little flair so I embossed the Smoky Slate cut out of the clock with my Tufted Embossing Folder. I decided to stamp little fish on the white clock cut out where the opening would be so it would appear that she has some wallpaper in her house. Of course the fish had to be colored in with the Petal Pink Blends marker. 🙂

Since all my pieces were cut, it was time to assembler the house. I layered the Embossed Smoky Slate Die cut over the Whisper White one. Then I added the circle trim over the opening and also the stamped outside layer I had colored in over the whole house. Though it sounds like a number of steps, it comes together pretty quickly as you are working on it!

Here is a close up of the house/bed so you can see it a little better:

To make the rest of the card I cut a 3/4 x 3 3/4 piece of Basic Gray and embossed it with the Pinewood Planks so it would look like a floor. I added a 1/4 x 3 3/4 inch piece of Whisper White to make it look baseboard trim. I stamped the kitty and colored her in with my Smoky Slate Blends marker. She was punched out with the Cat Punch and cut to fit in the house. I added a sentiment from the set and cut it out with the Stitched Shapes Dies. I made sure to give her a little food dish next to her house/bed. There is no die for this so I fussy cut it out. I stamped the bow from the set and colored in with Petal Pink blends. I punch it out with my 3/4 inch circle punch and layered Basic Gray behind it with my 1 inch circle punch.

That’s it! I need to be sure I give this card to someone who loves cats as much as me. I will say that this card has been Jezabel approved:

I hope you enjoyed my feline inspired post. Maybe you think it is Purrfect… HA HA! Come back soon for more inspiration!
