Saying Goodbye to my Dad – Father’s Day Card with Stampin’ Up! Geared Up Garage Stamp Set and Thinlits

Hello Creative Friends

I have been away for a bit and sadly I have unfortunate news. My father passed away somewhat suddenly in the last 2 weeks. We knew he was sick, but we believed we still had many months left. It turns out his tumor was much more aggressive than anticipated and he was gone just one month from his diagnosis. I am happy to say I was able to see him one last time before he passed and tell him how much I love him. I had already started working on his Father’s day card so I am sharing that for you today. My dad meant a lot to me and I will cherish the memories I have of him for the rest of my life.

Here is the card I made using the Geared Up Garage stamp set and the Garage Gears Thinlits

I used many items from the Occasions catalog to make this card. I started with a card base in Shaded Spruce cut at 4 1/4 x 11 and scored at 5 1/2. The patterned paper I used is part of the Classic Garage Designer Series Paper. Although the green in the paper is Tranquil Tide, I felt it was close enough to Shaded Spruce to use that instead. I layered the DSP on Crushed curry paper so it would pop on the Shaded Spruce more. To get this on the Shaded Spruce paper I simple laid it diagonally until I liked how much was showing. You can see the Shaded Spruce paper has some blotches on it. This was made with a stamp in the Geared Up Garage stamp set and stamped using Shaded Spruce ink. I like the grungy appearance it gives the card. I used the Garage Gears Thinlits and Silver Foil paper to cut out the two sets of Gears you see. It is hard to see it in the photo, but I roughed up the foil paper a bit with sand paper. I did this in long straight lines to give it a more grungy appearance as well. This can be done with a nail file block if you have one. The Best Dad stamp was stamped in Shaded Spruce. I used the thinlits once more to cut out the sentiment and the border around the sentiment. I popped this up on the card with Dimensionals.

I am sure my father would have been happy to receive this card. Hopefully he can see it looking down from heaven.

While I was absent tending to many family matters there were a number of announcements that took place I have not yet posted. I am going to start with the biggest news first. Stampin’ Up! is making some changes with the catalog that begins on June 4, 2019. They have decided to discontinue the following items: The Big Shot and all the accessories; The Stampin’ Trimmer and all the accessories.

Stampin’ Up! notified the demonstrators that they are in the process of working on tools that will give Stampin’ Up! a better opportunity to support the long-term vision for this line of tools.

The good news is Stampin’ Up! will still carry Dies and Embossing folders. You can still use your Big Shot or other comparable cutting machine to make wonderful creations. In many ways it is exciting to think about what new goodies they will come up with!

One thing to keep in mind is that items such as cutting blades for trimmer may not be available until the end of the current catalog. In fact, the blades are currently not orderable at this time. It is my understanding they will have more available and I will try my best to keep you posted when/if that happens. I am afraid the scoring blades and Stampin’ Trimmer Replacement Mats have already sold out and are no longer available to order. In regards to the Big Shot Accessories all the items picture above are still available, but this may change at any point before the current catalog finishes. The Standard Replacement Cutting pads have sold out and are no longer available to order.

I have many more updates to share with you, but I will be doing so over the next few days. There are fun things to come so I hope you are getting excited!

I thank you for stopping by my blog for creative inspiration and Stampin’ Up! news. I will leave you with a picture I will cherish forever. It is the last photo I was able to take with my dad.

Sending love to my dad in heaven!
