Happy Independence Day!!

Hello Crafty Friends,

It is Independence Day here in the U.S.A so what better time to make a patriotic themed card?

I made this card thinking it could be used for many types of occasions that may fall near the 4th of July.  I was trying to make something a bit out of the ordinary for me.  It was really fun to play around to see what I could come up with.  I started with a piece of Whisper White Cardstock and then I used washi tape to make the stripes.  I kept a rectangle un-taped on the upper left corner to have room for my stars.  This card does not have a perfectly accurate flag, of course.  To make the flag I used a few stamps from the Timeless Textures stamp set. I stamped the red stripes in Real Red and the blue background for the stars in Blueberry Bushel.  I carefully peeled back the washi tape once I finished stamping. I then used versamark and a stamp from the Sheltering Tree stamp set that had some stars in it. I then heat embossed this with white embossing powder.  I wanted this to have a rustic, weathered look so I used a Sponge Brayer with Sahara Sand Ink to go over the card multiple times. To make it look even more weathered I took my scissors and carefully roughed the edges of the stamped cardstock.  I did the same thing with the layer of Real Red cardstock. I used a stamp from the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set to stamp the Celebrate sentiment.  I wanted only the Celebrate word from this stamp so I cut around the word to omit the other part of the sentiment. I then used the Stitched Shapes Framelit Dies to cut an oval in Real Red. I added some Blueberry Bushel Ribbon and a few rhinestones to finish things off.

Now I am ready to go if I have a birthday, anniversary or really any occasion that happens near the 4th of July.

I hope you are enjoying some fun with family and friends today if you can!

Happy 4th of July!

Collage Stamping with Timeless Textures and Butterfly Basics

Happy Tuesday!

I am sharing with you a pretty simple card that also gives you some artistic freedom!  Have you ever tried Collage stamping?  I had not tried it before, but when I saw the Timeless Textures stamp set I knew this was the perfect technique to use with this set.  The great news is it is really hard to make a mistake with this technique. As long as you keep things random and try not to over stamp, it will look great.

Timeless Textures

I actually started this card with no plan at all regarding where I was going to stamp what or exactly what color I would used with each stamp.  I did pre-select colors I thought would compliment each other. These are Watermelon Wonder, So Saffron, Bermuda Bay and Crumb Cake.  I would recommend probably starting with the neutral color and then working your way to the brighter colors when doing this technique.  That way you can be sure you don’t get to crazy with the color!  You can see I used a number of stamps from both the Timeless Textures stamp set and the Butterfly Basics stamp set. The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Balloon Celebration Stamp set.   I used the Hello Honey 5/8 inch Striped Cotton Ribbon but still choose to use So Saffron as my stamped color.  I think it worked out rather well.  I also chose to layer ribbon by adding the Bermuda Bay 1/8 inch Stitched Ribbon.  I finished things off with random pearls placed on the card and a few on the butterfly as well.

Give the collage stamping a try, it is really fun and looks more challenging that it actually is to do!
